For collectibles: verify authenticity and packaging. Blind boxes and limited runs attract counterfeits. Buy from the brand's own regional store where one exists, and check that the listing states case ratios and box condition.

For 3D printers and lasers: consumables and community matter more than specs. A printer is a platform. Check spare-part availability, firmware openness, and the size of the user community before buying on print speed.

Safety on laser cutters and resin printers. Resin requires ventilation and gloves; lasers require enclosures and interlocks. Budget for the safety gear — it is not optional and it is not included.

Age-grading for toys. Legitimate cross-border toy sellers meet destination-market age-labelling rules (CE/UKCA toy directive, ASTM F963 in the US). If a listing has no age grading, it has not been tested for it.

Model kit scale compatibility. Confirm the scale matches the rest of your collection, and check whether the kit includes decals, photo-etch, or paint. Product photos frequently show finished models that imply supplied paint.
